I’m tired of excuses. I’m tired of being told that fashionable clothes “don’t sell” in plus-sizes. Of course they don’t, when they’re shoved on the back side of the shop floor like you’re ashamed of them, never marketed properly and of course, are never there. Perhaps instead of blaming the market, perhaps it’s time to look at how you’re approaching it. Perhaps it’s time to make a splash and say “Check out our hot new clothes for plus-sizes! Shop your heart out, you deserve nice things too!” and watch just how things change with what sells and what doesn’t. How about looking at how you market to plus-sized women, and instead of selling them “flattering”, sell them fun, sell them fashion, sell them empowerment.

Also, super-trendy stores (for a random example, Forever 21)? When you make a plus line, consider the rest of your store and consider including some of EVERY style you have in store with your plus line, because not every girl or woman who wears size 14 up wants fluorescent zebra striped jeans. We want faux prep! We want punk! We want a little bit of everything JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER GIRL OR WOMAN WHO IS SHOPPING AT YOUR STORE!
IF YOU BUILD IT WE WILL MOTHERFUCKING COME.

THIS. OMFG THIS. I have been saying for YEARS that the plus sized fashion industry needs to WAKE UP TO ITS AUDIENCE. Most of us DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT enjoy dressing in fabrics that make us look like upholstery or curtains or something we would find at the back of Grandma’s closet. WE JUST WANT TO LOOK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. That means we want to participate in trends too! INCLUDE US!
Just because we are a few sizes bigger, doesn’t mean don’t wanna look FIERCE AS FUCK.
